Places to see and day trips
Batería antisubmarina de Cabo de Palos
A pretty, free viewpoint with easy access, best for a short daytime stop.
Why go
After 15 years in La Manga, I have learned to separate places worth planning around from places that simply work well as an easy detour. Batería antisubmarina de Cabo de Palos felt firmly in the second group to me: a short stop for the panorama.
When I visited on 2026-10-16, there were very few people around. I came by car and found space in the parking area. If you are already on the Cabo de Palos side, this is an easy place to pull over, enjoy the views, and carry on without any real planning.
An easy stop without much hassle
I came here by car, and it was a straightforward stop with no stress involved. There is a small parking area by the site, and during my visit there were spaces available.
There were no tickets or paid extras when I went, so the visit was free. My first impression was very clear: this is not a place to linger for hours, but a quick stop for the view.
The panorama is the real reason to come
The site itself is a former anti-submarine defense position, but to me its main value today is not the historical detail but the panorama. The view is genuinely beautiful and wide open, the kind of place where you just stand still for a few minutes and look.
I liked how simple and unforced it felt. There is nothing to organize and no grand plan required, you just show up and take in the view. Sometimes that is exactly what you want, especially when you are not looking for a half-day outing.
When it makes sense to stop here
In my opinion, 10 to 15 minutes is enough here. That gives you time for a quick look around and a few quiet minutes with the panorama.
It is best to come in daylight. Based on what I found during my visit, there is no real point in being here after dark because you cannot see anything, and the high slopes also make it less safe. This suits almost anyone, especially if you are also walking the Cabo de Palos trail or want a short stop while driving along the coast.
Good to know
It is not worth coming at night. You cannot really see anything, and the high slopes can make it unsafe.
